A new release of my C64 emulator written entirely in LabVIEW brings an important achievement: the system now performs a full boot, loading the original Kernal and BASIC ROMs and displaying the classic Commodore 64 blue screen.

This post marks a significant milestone in my personal project: the development of a complete Commodore 64 (C64) emulator entirely in LabVIEW. After successfully implementing the SID audio chip, the focus shifted to the core component: the CPU, the MOS Technology 6502 (or its 6510 variant).

I have completed the functional implementation of the 6502 core. The primary goals were achieving maximum logical accuracy while ensuring efficient execution through a lean and optimized LabVIEW codebase....

Ovviamente è successo.

Nel post precedente avevo scritto di voler provare a creare un emulatore di C64 scritto interamente in LabVIEW.

Avevo fatto una scaletta ragionata di quali parti implementare prima, in base alle loro dipendenze reciproche e alla complessità di sviluppo, e il SID (il chip audio) era all'ultimo posto - l'ultimo.

E invece è successo che l'ho implementato per primo.

Era in effetti impossibile resistere alla tentazione di fare suonare sul SID emulato la demo "A mind is Born"....

La scorsa settimana ho seguito una serie di video di Salvatore Sanfilippo in cui programmava live in C su un emulatore di Commodore 64, cercando di aggiungere il supporto audio. L'obiettivo era fare girare la demo "A mind is Born" che in soli 256 byte di memoria (!!!) riesce fare la magia di generare musica ed effetti video....

Negli scorsi giorni mi è capitato sotto mano un dump SQL di un vecchio backup di phpBB, una piattaforma ormai superata per la gestione di forum.

Il backup apparteneva a un forum online che ho creato nel 2002 e gestito fino al 2021, anno in cui, per diverse ragioni, ho deciso di chiuderlo.

Il sito era ILVG.it ("Italian LabVIEW User Group"), rappresentava un punto di riferimento per gli appassionati del linguaggio e dell’ambiente LabVIEW. Contava oltre 1500 iscritti e circa 35....
